In 1922, Gene Sarazen the \Squire\ became one of the youngest players ever to win a major championship when he won both the U.S. Open and the PGA Championship. In 1923, he successfully defended his PGA Championship title. Sarazen won eight times in 1930. In 1932, he won both the British and U.S. Opens. In 1933, Sarazen captured the PGA Championship. In 1935, Gene Sarazen made \the shot heard around the world\, a double eagle on the 15th hole of Augusta National to win the 1935 Masters. Gene was the first player to capture the career Grand Slam.

Gene Sarazen wins the National Open June 25, 1932. Shooting excellent golf throughout the tournament Sarazen, of Great Neck , NY, added the National Open Golf Championship to his list of victories. He carded 286 for the tournament, with Bobby Cruikshank and T. Phil Perkies tied for second with 289. This photo taken at the Fresh Meadow Country Club, Flushing, Long Island, shows Gene with George Von Elm (left) on the way to the 16th green during the final round.

(Augusta, GA) Gene \worries about his golf\ but equals course record. Gene Sarazen, last years winner of the Masters Tournament, told the press he was worried about his golf, after he finished the first round of the present tournament, trailing the leader by eight strokes. Gene then went out in the second round and shot himself a 67 to equal the course record, and came back into the running with a bang. Gene is shown here doing a little \worrying\. The tournament is being played on April 5, 1936 at the Augusta National Golf Club course that was designed by Bobby Jones.
